The most important potash mine in the world, Nieves de Cardona Mine (1929-1990)

Spanish Mediterranean Coast Tour ~ Barcelona (Region) Today we visited the Salt Mountain which is 120 meters above sea level. Only a portion of the opening beneath the huge mountain, about 2 km deep, was visited. Today, the old mining area is home to the Salt Mountain Cultural Park, a large cultural facility that promotes the importance of salt, the geological peculiarities of the site, and the use of this natural resource by humans over the centuries. When we arrived at the facility, the minibus took us down a route where you can see the textures that the salt mountains and domes have to offer. We put on helmets to protect ourselves and the guide explained the rules that we couldn’t touch anything at all, let alone eat salt, which was obvious and I wouldn’t do out of respect. We were not allowed to take photos inside the salt mine, we could only take photos around the Sistine Chapel, which was the most spectacular place. There are two ways to enter, the general tour is more suitable for adult audiences with an interpretive nature, and the theater tour is designed for audiences with children, although the route is the same. It is highly recommended that you purchase your tickets online so that you can find the best time and tickets to plan a full day to enjoy a great visit to Cardona. The tour lasts one hour and the route is relatively flat with some small slopes but no stairs.
