King of the Fjords: Sognefjord, Norway

#tripcom5th Anniversary The Sognefjord is the largest and deepest fjord in Norway. It is located in the county of Strand in western Norway. The fjord is 205 kilometers long, 4.5 kilometers wide and 1,308 meters deep, so it is also called the King of Fjords. The fjord extends 205 kilometers from the Norwegian Sea to the village of Sjoren. There is no bridge in the entire fjord, and the ferry is the only public transportation across the fjord. This group of photos was taken on the ferry from Wangsnes to Hella. There is a statue of the Nordic hero Fritjof in Wangsnes Village, which was funded by German William II and carved by German sculptor and art professor Max Unger. It was erected here in July 1913. The statue is 22.5 meters high. It stands in a park overlooking the Sognefjord and is now a landmark of the village. In 1890, William II also ordered a coastal defense ship to be named after Fritjof, the name of the Nordic hero. Wangsnes can clearly see the 200-meter-high Kvene Falls across the fjord. Even from the mountain about 13 kilometers away from Wangsnes, you can see the waterfall from afar.
