Andalucia Tour ~ Jaén (Region) Baños de la Encina is located at the foot of the Sierra Morena Mountains, approximately 52 km from the city of Jaén. Its old town has been declared a cultural heritage. It is an important site for several cultural routes, such as the Nasrid Route or the Castle and Battle Route. Baños de la Encina Castle is also known as the "Fortress of the Seven Kings" because of the many monarchs who lived here, including Ferdinand the Catholic. It was built by the Umayyads in the 10th century and is zigzag in shape, oval in shape, with 14 square towers and retaining a citadel. However, it is not the only recommended site: the Church of San Mateo, with its magnificent altarpiece and beautiful sanctuary, and the Monastery of Jesús el Llano, with its austere exterior, are some examples. It is in stark contrast to the Baroque interior.
