Jiang Ziya fished at the Diaoyutai, where King Wen of Zhou sought and invited the wise

Jiang Ziya's Diaoyutai is located in Tianwang Town, Chencang District, Baoji City, nestled against the Qinling Mountains to the south and overlooking the Wei River to the north. The historical allusion of 'Jiang Ziya fishing, King Wen of Zhou seeking and inviting the wise' took place here. A temple was established during the Han Dynasty, with palatial temples built against the mountain, majestic in stature; the huge 'Diaohuanglingji' stone, resembling a hill with kneeling marks still visible, is known as China's number one 'Kneeling Stone'; four 'Tang Cypress' trees so thick it takes three people to encircle them; Wenwang Temple, Taigong Temple, Sanqing Temple... A valley stretching for kilometers, filled with peculiar rocks, connected emerald pools, and secluded bridges and paths... During the Ming Dynasty, Xu Zhonglin mythologized Jiang Ziya in his work 'Fengshen Yanyi', making Jiang Ziya well-known among men and women, both in China and Southeast Asia: riding a creature with features of four different animals, wielding the God-Beating Whip, the Wujixinghuang Flag, and the God-Sealing Scroll, but that is merely a work of mythological fiction. Jiang Ziya was indeed a historical figure, a great politician, military strategist, tactician, and diplomat who had a profound impact on Chinese history. Jiang Ziya's surname was Jiang, his given name Shang, styled Ziya, and he was honored by King Wen of Zhou as 'Taigong Wang', hence later generations revered him as 'Jiang Taigong'. Since Jiang Taigong and his descendants were enfeoffed in the Qi region, he was also known as 'Qi Taigong'. Baoji's Jiang Taigong Diaoyutai became a sacred place for generations because of his acquaintance with King Wen of Zhou, and it is famous in the world for Jiang Taigong's fishing, thus being revered by fishing enthusiasts as the 'Ancestor of Fishing'.
