Bath, England's spa resort

Bath, a city in the Avon Valley region of England, was a hot spring resort for the Romans. It was founded in 43 AD as part of the Roman province of Britain. The hot springs in the Avon Valley are also the only natural hot springs in England. The Romans built a hot spring bath and a temple in the valley and on the hills around Bath. In 973 AD, Edgar was crowned King of England at Bath Abbey. Many years later, during the Georgian era, Bath became a spa resort. This led to a dramatic expansion of the city of Bath, leaving behind many outstanding Georgian stone buildings in Bath.
