The Imperial Mansion, Beijing

We, together with our son's family (with 3 young children) stayed in mid April. On arrival, in order to put us on the same floor, the manager upgraded both of our apartments to an executive apartment and a 2 bedroom apartment. The apartments are very spacious and clean. The furnishing is of good quality. Very functional and pleasing. Both have a full kitchen with a good size fridge/freezer, coffee machine, cook top and even a rice cooker. A washing machine came in handy for the travelers. The bathroom in both apartments was huge. It has a separate shower and separate toilet. Our grandchildren found it amazing to find a hidden television in the bathroom. Watching TV while having a bath. (Try and see if you can find the hidden television!) All the staff were polite and professional. The reception staff speak adequate English to be helpful. The location was really good. 5 minutes walk to the Wangfujing pedestrian precinct and to subway. There are many eateries (all price range) just within 10 minutes walking radius. It is so close to the food street where stalls sell all kinds of food, from potato chips on a stick to fried scorpions. Most visitors would make just one trip there, but since we were so close, the grandchildren went there 3 times, just to absorb the atmosphere. Forbidden City is an easy 20 minutes walk ( can be quicker, if you do not have to dodge between other tourists and cars). Since it is so close, we got up early in the morning, strolled down to Tiananmen square before other tourists made it there. There is only one restaurant in the hotel, serving breakfast and hotpot dinner. That is adequate, as there are many eateries close by. Breakfast had a good mix of Chinese and Western choices. Everyday, a few items would be changed from previous day's selection.
