Zhao Temple in Xiangshan Park

🎈Zhao Temple in Xiangshan Park, also known as the Grand Zhao Temple of the Ancestral Mirror, signifies a temple for the exalted. It was built in the 45th year of the Qianlong reign for the Sixth Panchen Lama, Lobsang Palden Yeshe, who came to Beijing to celebrate Qianlong Emperor's 70th birthday. The Zhao Temple served as the summer residence for the Panchen Lama, hence it was also called the Panchen Lama's Summer Palace. 🎈The Zhao Temple covers an area of 9,100 square meters and is designed in a mixed Han-Tibetan Lama temple style. Emperor Qianlong placed great importance on the Sixth Panchen Lama's visit to Beijing, constructing three palaces for him at Xiangshan, the Western Yellow Temple in Beijing, and Chengde, bestowing numerous Buddha statues, precious treasures, and spending much time in his company. On September 19th of the 45th year of Qianlong's reign, the Sixth Panchen Lama held an eye-opening ceremony for the completion of Zhao Temple and the Emperor composed the poem 'Six Rhymes of Zhao Temple'. 🎈In the tenth year of the Xianfeng reign, Zhao Temple was plundered and burned by the Anglo-French allied forces, leaving only relics such as the glazed tile archway, flagpole stone bases, white platforms, stone steles, red platforms, and glazed pagodas. Some facilities have now been restored for visitors.
