The caisson of Longfu Temple was originally placed on the top of the Zhengjue Hall of Longfu Temple. At that time, there were three caissons in the main hall, under which sat the Three Buddhas of the Past, Present and Future. The Buddha under the middle caisson was Sakyamuni. The caisson on display today is located in the middle position. The caisson in Longfu Temple is a national first-class cultural relic and was originally a Ming Dynasty building. The caisson is divided into six layers, with each circular main frame finely carved with cloud patterns. It has an exquisite structure and unique design. At the top is a star map with more than 1,400 stars. It is said to have been drawn with reference to a star map from the Tang Dynasty. Outside the caisson, at the same level as the indoor ceiling and the first and second floors of the caisson, there is a square beam with a statue of a deity standing in the middle of colorful clouds. The four corners of the third layer of the caisson are supported by wooden carvings of the Four Heavenly Kings. During the earthquake in 1976, Longfu Temple was damaged. Some cultural relics workers believed that the caisson was of great value, so they dismantled it for protection. It was later stored in the Taisui Hall of the Beijing Ancient Architecture Museum, and has now become the museum's treasure.
