Beipu Old Street

Beipu Old Street is one of the lesser known tourist spots among foreign tourists. It takes about an hour and a half to get there by taking a large Taiwan Tourist Shuttle bus from the center of Hsinchu City. A distinctive feature of this old town is that it has many buildings with a long history as a residential area for Hakka people. You can also try Hakka mochi (Hakka mugwort rice cakes) and rui cha (Hakka tea made from many grains ground in a bowl, with a taste similar to matcha). In particular, black tea dougan is a snack made by simmering dried tofu in black tea leaves for a long time, and is worth trying.
