#MarchGoodPlaces2025 The Monument to the Discoverers, built for the 1960 World Expo, stands next to the outlet of the Taigas River. This monument was built to commemorate Prince Henry. It tells the story of Prince Henry and a group of navigators, adventurers and missionaries during the Portuguese Age of Discovery in the 15th and 16th centuries. It includes statues of 80 people including Magellan and St. Francis. In addition, there is a map of the world in front of the monument, which was given to the Portuguese government by the South African government in 1960 on the 500th anniversary of the death of Prince Henry. The exquisite map shows the areas conquered by Portugal during the Age of Discovery.
