Paris of the East: Four Days in Belgrade 🇷🇸 🥙

Located in South Eastern Europe, Serbia is a country that often flies under the radar. In recent years, Serbia has become and up and coming tourist destination. Its capital, Belgrade, is sometimes known as “the Paris of the East” and its a great city to base yourself in for exploring the surrounding region. Here’s what I recommend for a 4 day stay in Belgrade: 1️⃣ Stari Grad (Old Town) The iconic heart of Belgrade where history and urban life comes together. This area houses Skadarlija and Dorćol, trendy neighborhoods with a multicultural past. You’ll also find the Republic Square and the Knez Mihailova Street, a pedestrian street perfect for shopping. Finish your day at the Kalemegdan Fortress, a huge fortress providing views of the confluence of the Sava and Danube Rivers. 2️⃣ Skadarlija If you want to experience lively music, Serbian culture, and fantastic food, then come to Skadarlija. Also know as Belgrade’s Bohemian Quarter, it has long been a gathering place for artists, poets, and musicians. The area has great vibes and is perfect for a romantic evening walk after indulging in some tasty Serbian cuisine. 3️⃣ Zemun Zemun is a historic and atmospheric district of Belgrade and is easily reached by bus from downtown. Walking the winding streets of Zemun feels like walking through a Central European village. The cobblestone streets will eventually lead you to the Gardoš Tower which you can climb for around €2. After taking in the views, head down and enjoy an art gallery or have a refreshing drink along the Danube waterfront. 4️⃣ Sremski Karlovci If you’re planning a day trip to Novi Sad, start your day early and pair it with a trip to the charming Sremski Karlovci. The small town boasts beautiful architecture, rich history, and is known all over Serbia for its wine. Regular trains leave from Belgrade toward Novi Sad, stopping off at Sremski Karlovci along the way. For beautiful views of the town below, follow the signs and walk up to the observation deck at Vidikovac Magarčev Breg. 5️⃣ Novi Sad Serbia’s second largest city, Novi Sad is known for its diversity, architecture, and vibrant arts scene. The small historic center is small and walkable, boasting cozy cafes and cobblestone streets. Be sure to climb up to the Petrovaradin Fortress for some great views of the city below. 🏨 Where to Stay: Belgrade offers diverse accommodation options for all types of travelers. Consider staying in the Skadarlija neighborhood to be close to all the major tourist spots and restaurants. Hotel Bohemian Garni boasts big rooms at affordable prices right in the heart of Belgrade. 🫓Where to Eat: 🥩Dva Jelena 🫓 Sarajevski Ćevap:To Je To 🍟 Drama Ćevap 🍝 Street Pasta Bar #trip #travel #localguides #historicallandmarks #wanderlust #serbia #belgrade #exploresgtogether #inspiration #europetrip #europe

Belgrade Fortress

Belgrade Fortress is the core and the oldest section of the urban area of Belgrade. For centuries, the city population was concentrated only within the walls of the fortress, and thus the history of the fortress, until most recent times, reflects the history of Belgrade itself. It's a huge space, the castle, parks all around castle, a zoo at the bottom of the street, tennis courts, museums in the castle, bars, pubs in the castle, hidden spots... There are amazing views from the top the bottom and photo shooting spots. Basically there is always something for everyone out there to relax, to play chess, to run around, to have picnic. You can't live Belgrade without seeing Fortress (Kalemegdan). #kalemegdanfortress #belgrade #mustgo #awesomepic
