Federal Palace Bundeshaus: A must-visit landmark in Bern

The Federal Palace Bundeshaus, the office of the Swiss Federal Government, consists of two buildings: one housing the Parliament and the other serving as the administrative center. It is the heart of Switzerland's federal administration. Located on a small hill above the Aare River, the Federal Palace overlooks the historic center of Switzerland's capital, Bern. Built in 1902, the Parliament building features a stunning Neo-Renaissance architectural style with a green central dome. Its structure extends east and west with impressive wings, and the main facade is adorned with sculptures and emblems representing Switzerland's 26 cantons. The building is divided into three sections: the wings on either side house the National Council and the Council of States, while the central area beneath the dome is used for various assemblies and events. Although primarily an office space, the Federal Palace is open to visitors free of charge. However, reservations must be made online at least three days in advance. The interior boasts a classical and majestic design, exuding a solemn and dignified atmosphere. Guided tours are available in multiple languages and last about an hour, making it a worthwhile experience. Just remember to book in advance!
