Florianópolis is a city in southern Brazil and the capital of Santa Catarina state. Located on the west coast of Catalina Island, it is connected to the mainland by a suspension bridge. Population: 153,000 (1980). Construction began in 1542. It was established as a city in 1823. A trading center and export port for mainland agricultural products. The main industries are sugar and flour production, as well as metallurgy, telecommunications equipment, pharmaceuticals, plastics, spices, etc. 🛣️There are roads leading to the interior as well as Curitiba and Porto Alegre.
