#aprilblooms #butchart Gardens The Butchart Gardens is a renowned 55-acre (22-hectare) botanical garden located in Brentwood Bay, near Victoria on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. Established in 1904, it has been designated a National Historic Site of Canada and attracts over a million visitors annually .  🌿 History The gardens were created by Jennie Butchart, who transformed her husband’s depleted limestone quarry into the Sunken Garden, completed in 1921. Subsequent additions included the Japanese Garden (1906), Italian Garden (1926), and Rose Garden (1929) . The estate, named “Benvenuto” (Italian for “welcome”), remains under the stewardship of the Butchart family.    🌸 Garden Highlights • Sunken Garden: A central feature with vibrant floral displays and meandering pathways. • Japanese Garden: Designed by Isaburo Kishida, featuring ponds, bridges, and traditional Japanese landscaping.  • Italian Garden: A formal garden with a cross-shaped pond and symmetrical flower beds.  • Rose Garden: Home to numerous varieties of roses, arranged in a circular layout. • Ross Fountain: Installed in 1964, offering dynamic water displays.  • Children’s Pavilion & Rose Carousel: Features hand-carved animals and is the only carousel on Vancouver Island .
