Changhua's Famous Landmark: Yusan Hall

Location: No. 2, Lane 451, Section 1, Zhongshan Road, Gangxi Village, Yongjing Township, Changhua County Introduction: Yusan Hall, located in Yongjing Township, Changhua County, Taiwan, is a county-designated historic site (originally a third-class historic site) announced on November 27, 1985. It was the residence of the Chen family, whose ancestral home was in Dayong Village, Ketangpu Township, Yuangao District, Raoping County, Chaozhou Prefecture, Guangdong Province. The hall was expanded by Chen Chengjian (Youguang) in 1884 (the 10th year of the Guangxu Emperor's reign) from the Chen family's old residence. Completed in 1891 (the 17th year of the Guangxu Emperor's reign), the residence was named Yusan Hall to commemorate the hardships of the ancestors in establishing their legacy and to bless future generations with "abundance in fortune, longevity, and offspring." Another interpretation of "Yusan" comes from the Three Kingdoms-era scholar Dong Yu: "Winter is the surplus of the year; night is the surplus of the day; rainy days are the surplus of time." This reflects the hope that descendants will make good use of their time and leisure to achieve academic or career success.
