The Dongshan Temple Stage in Tongguan Town, Changsha, Hunan

The Dongshan Temple Stage is located directly opposite Dongshan Temple and was originally an auxiliary structure of the temple. In 1928, Guo Liang, a leader of the Tongguan workers' movement, was killed by the Kuomintang reactionaries, and his head was displayed at Simenkou before being moved to this stage for public display. In 1964, it was designated as a municipal-level cultural relic protection unit in Changsha but collapsed in the 1980s. During the construction of the Mica Academy in 2016, 10 components including the stone pillars with couplets from both sides of the stage were excavated from underground. Historical records confirmed this as the site of the Dongshan Temple Stage. In 2021, to commemorate the martyr Guo Liang, the stage was restored and rebuilt based on original photographs. The stage covers an area of approximately 143 square meters, featuring a stone-and-wood structure with two floors. The roof is covered with green glazed tiles, the ridge is adorned with yellow ceramic decorations, and the gable walls on the east and west sides have glazed tile roofs forming two Guanyin-dou walls. The windows are double-leaf casement windows with grid-patterned paper pasting.
