| Accidentally wandered into the lush poetic fairyland of Dongpo Garden. Hey buddies 👋, I recently visited Changzhou, and this trip left me deeply impressed by the Warren Hotel and Dongpo Garden! The next day, while exploring the city, I discovered a less popular but absolutely worthwhile park—Changzhou Dongpo Garden ⛲. Named after Su Dongpo, this garden is located on a small peninsula by the ancient Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, a strategic point where the canal flows eastward 🏞. The 3.4-hectare scenic area consists of a water-surrounded peninsula and the Crescent Island in the ancient canal, connected by the Ming Dynasty Guangji Bridge. Su Dongpo visited Changzhou 11 times and spent his final years here. Legend has it he disembarked here to enter the city 🏯. During the Southern Song Dynasty, locals built the Yizhou Pavilion in the garden to commemorate him. Though small, the pavilion atop the garden’s southern hill is exquisitely designed. Emperor Qianlong wrote poems for it four times during his southern tours and even inscribed a plaque: "Juju Fengliu" (The Grace of Su Dongpo). Wandering through Dongpo Garden—meandering through stone caves 🪨, strolling across bridges, sitting quietly on stone benches, and admiring the winding rockeries ⛰️—I truly felt the ancient aesthetic and poetic charm. The garden radiates Su-style landscaping with a "tropical rainforest" vibe, leaving me in awe of the ingenuity of Chinese garden design.
