Chongqing Zoo is located in Yangjiaping Street, Jiulongpo District, Chongqing, 8 kilometers away from the city center and with an altitude of 240-305.8 meters. Covering an area of ​​45 hectares, it is the largest comprehensive park in Chongqing. It is one of the three zoos with the largest number of giant pandas in China. It is a giant panda breeding base and the national South China Tiger Breeding Center population base. It is a national AAAA tourist attraction and was selected as a national key park in 2009. Before 1949, the zoo was a private garden. It was founded in 1953. It was turned into a park in 1954 and named West District Park. It was officially opened to the public on January 24, 1955, with 60 animals of 11 species on display. On November 1, 1960, the West District Park was officially renamed Chongqing Zoo. At this time, 589 animals of 103 species could be exhibited. By 1966, the zoo raised and exhibited 735 animals of 137 species, initially reaching the scale of a medium-sized zoo. Currently, there are more than 230 species of animals on display in Chongqing Zoo all year round, totaling more than 4,000 animals.
