Chongqing Tourism｜Songshan Gailu, the Original Ecological Town of the Yangtze River-Songgai

Today I would like to recommend to you a small ancient town near Chongqing - Songgai (Ji) Ancient Town. It faces the Yangtze River and has a quiet environment. There are long streets with bluestone slabs and oil-paper umbrellas hanging upside down between the houses. These must be the standard features of an ancient town, but they have a completely new interpretation in Songgai. Highlights 1. Yuhuang Temple: It has been an influential Taoist temple in western Chongqing since ancient times. After entering the magnificent front hall, there is a quadrangle courtyard behind it. The main hall has carved beams and painted rafters, and the dragon patterns on the dragon pillars are lifelike. Directly opposite is the stage, and it is said that you can also see Sichuan opera performances here during the Spring Festival. 2. Luo Family Ancestral Hall Adjacent to the Yuhuang Temple is the Luo Family Ancestral Hall, which is a historical mark left behind when people from Huguang moved to Sichuan. Luo is also the largest surname in the area. Climbing up to the second floor of the stage, you can also see the tower on the river bank from afar, which is shining brightly under the sunlight. 3. Riverside Pier Follow the signs of Yongchuan County Government Office and you will find a path leading to the river. The river bank here is different from other docks. A long stone bridge extends into the center of the river. Fishing boats are moored on both sides. The river water is clear and the waves are glittering in the sun. It feels like the dock has the rhythm of life. 4. Linjiang Teahouse, great for taking photos, and they only sell tea, 30 per person, a little more expensive than other places, but very worth it, the location is excellent, and the storytelling performances are very interesting. Food Recommendations The nine dishes of the ancient town are all carefully prepared with perfect color, fragrance, taste and shape. They are steamed in bamboo steamers and are full of the flavor of life. There are also Songgai sausages, sorghum wine, boiled fish... every bite has the taste of the ancient town! I especially recommend the local pickles, which are simply the perfect dish to go with rice. Useful Information 🎫Tickets: Free, no charge for entering the ancient town or any of the scenic spots. 🚄Transportation: Self-driving is the most convenient. Chongqing - Yongchuan East Station - Yongchuan Bus Station, take a bus from Yongchuan Bus Station to the ancient town for 1 hour, and get on the bus at the same place where you got off before 6 pm on the return trip. 🏨Accommodation: Starting from the main city of Chongqing, a one-day tour can basically be completed. If you need accommodation, you can choose inns and B&Bs near the river, where the scenery will be better. 🪭Nearby attractions: Yongchuan Tea Mountain and Bamboo Sea, Lehe Ledu, etc. If you have enough time and energy, you can arrange a one-day or two-day tour.
