Built between 1887 and 1893 for Theodore Mander, a local industrialist, the manor stands as a testament to the aesthetic ideals of the time, heavily influenced by the works of William Morris and his contemporaries.   ⸻ 🏛️ Architectural and Artistic Significance Designed by architect Edward Ould, Wightwick Manor showcases the “Old English” Tudor Revival style, characterized by its timber-framed construction and intricate detailing. The interiors are adorned with original wallpapers, textiles, and furnishings from Morris & Co., complemented by tiles from William De Morgan and stained glass by Charles Kempe. The manor also houses an impressive collection of Pre-Raphaelite art, featuring works by Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Edward Burne-Jones, and Evelyn De Morgan, among others .  ⸻ 🌳 Gardens and Surroundings Set within 17 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens, the estate offers a serene environment for visitors. The gardens, designed by renowned landscape architect Thomas Mawson, include formal terraces, a walled garden, and woodland walks, reflecting the harmonious blend of art and nature championed by the Arts and Crafts movement .  ⸻ 🕒 Visitor Information • Location: Wightwick Bank, Wolverhampton, West Midlands, WV6 8EE  • Opening Hours: • Gardens: Open daily from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM (last admission at 4:00 PM). • Manor and Gallery: Open from 11:00 AM, with last admission one hour before closing. • Note: Opening times may vary during winter months and on special occasions; it’s advisable to check the official website before visiting .   • Admission: • Free entry for National Trust members and children under 5. • Admission fees apply for non-members, with reduced rates when the upper floor of the manor is closed .  • Facilities: • On-site tea room located in the converted stables. • Gift shop and second-hand bookshop. • Free parking available near the entrance .  ⸻ 🔧 Restoration Efforts The manor is currently undergoing “The Big MEND” project, a comprehensive three-year restoration initiative aimed at preserving its timber framework, lead flashing, window sills, and other structural elements.
