Address: 460 meters west of Yinqiao Mine Line, Dali City, Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province Wuwei Temple was first built in the 9th year of Zhenyuan Period in Tang Dynasty (793 AD). Its founder, Candorajita, was a monk from Western India. During the Nanzhao period, he came to the foot of Vulture Peak from India and built a hut to practice Buddhism at Gelao Cliff under Lanfeng Peak. Gelao Cliff, commonly known as Old Eagle Cliff, got its name because there is a rock beside Yinxian Creek that looks like a vulture spreading its wings ready to fly. It is the place where Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva practiced. Because of his profound Taoist knowledge, Zando was appointed as the national teacher by King Luo Feng when he first arrived in Nanzhao. After Feng died, Yi Mouxun, in the ninth year of Zhenguan, expanded the scale of the temple and rebuilt it on the site of the original ancient temple two miles in front of Gelao Cliff to support Zando's preaching and benefiting sentient beings.
