Dongguan Street is coming, right at the end of June, Dalian's own Bund

Visiting Dalian's century-old Dongguan Street||Today, I visited the century-old historical district of Dalian--Dongguan Street (Phase I). Its name originates from a checkpoint for inspections over 100 years ago, which was located to the east of Xiaogangzi, hence the street was named Dongguan Street. Dongguan Street is one of the existing provincial-level historical and cultural districts in Dalian, and one of the starting points of the city. In the 1920s and 1930s, it was once a bustling area. After the reform and opening up, it was gradually replaced by modern commercial facilities and market-oriented models such as Qingniwaqiao and Xi'an Road, and the once flourishing prosperity became a memory, eventually turning into one of the most dilapidated districts in Dalian. In 2016, the expropriation of houses in the old town of Dongguan Street officially started. After the original residents moved out, there were different opinions about the future of this old district, leading to its abandonment over the years. Some people thought it should be demolished directly for land sales and construction (more direct economic benefits), while others believed it should be preserved and repaired. Fortunately, the preservation view prevailed, and in the second half of 2022, the renovation project of Dongguan Street officially began. While Dongguan Street incorporates modern architectural design and traditional style cultural preservation buildings, it adheres to the principles of protection and utilization: 'restore the old as it was', 'supplement the new as it was', and 'integrate the new with the old'. I believe it will definitely become a new landmark and calling card for the city. Finally, the merchant recruitment for the Phase I district of Dongguan Street has been completed, and it is expected to open to the public at the end of June. With this 'century-old cultural and tourism card', Dalian will surely create greater cultural and economic value in the long run.
