Both upgraded me to executive suites—would it just be a higher floor and fancier decor, with everything else the same, even the room number ending? But the moment I crossed the connecting corridor on the first floor into Conrad’s domain, the vibe was entirely different. The front desk lady who greeted me was full of energy and laughter—she’d probably be the star of the square dance after work. Patient and professional, she loaded me with perks and finally explained that the two hotels have completely different layouts. My room faced the sea directly, and at night, I could even enjoy the fountain show. The suite was a standard one-bedroom, one-living-room layout with two bathrooms, square and tidy. The overall aesthetic was a warm, textured orange palette: deep brown soft furnishings, creamy yellow wallpaper, gold-copper trims, soft orange lighting, and marble and carpets in tan hues—like a soft-focus filter that gracefully masked signs of age and wear. It felt like a beauty favored by time, aging gracefully with undiminished charm. As a member, I was treated to an extravagant welcome fruit platter, an adorable bear waiting on the pillow, freshly squeezed juice delivered to my door, and turndown service that set the perfect mood for sleep. Afternoon tea, happy hour, and breakfast were all served at the executive lounge on the top floor, where the views stretched endlessly, and the staff—all speaking with a Northeast accent—were so sociable they could turn introverts into extroverts in minutes. However, the food somewhat confirmed Hilton’s reputation for mediocre dining. The fitness center and pool on the fifth floor were compact but stunning. The pool’s domed ceiling was adorned with stained glass, and murals and sculptures reflected in the water, creating a European palace-like aquatic beauty—gorgeous on its own, no lighting tricks needed. That this pool isn’t viral yet makes me think Dalian’s influencers should each take a penalty shot. As for choosing between Conrad and Hilton, during off-peak seasons, the price difference is just 200–300 RMB. It boils down to whether you’re willing to pay extra for that extra vacation vibe, the enchanting pool, and the warm service. Finally, as a seasoned traveler, I’ve developed my own preferences and priorities. I can also sense how different hotel groups value their loyal guests.
