Awakening to the first light at Moganshan, I was greeted by the mountain's drowsy dawn and the already enthusiastic chorus of birds. In the early morning, I stepped onto the viewing platform behind the hotel. The mountain mist hadn't fully dissipated, and the distant peaks were faintly visible. I felt like a hermit returning to the mountains, ready to lose myself in this tranquil forest. Moganshan is located in northern Zhejiang. Its name originates from the legendary swordsmith couple Ganjiang and Moye, who forged peerless swords here for King Helü of Wu during the late Spring and Autumn period. With its rolling hills and stunning scenery, it's also known as the "First Mountain South of the Yangtze." The mountains, waterfalls, and bamboo forests give this area a unique beauty, attracting numerous celebrities and wealthy merchants over the years to build villas here, making it their vacation "back garden." Though time has passed and many villas are now protected buildings or repurposed, walking through the mountains, one can still sense the grandeur of bygone eras. If not for the thick morning clouds and heavy mist, Xuguang Terrace would be the best spot in Moganshan to watch the sunrise. From the parking area, a short walk down a side path leads to an impressive gate tower—Qingliang Pavilion, the ticket checkpoint for Xuguang Terrace. A few more steps along the mountain path reveal the upturned eaves on the distant peak—that's Xuguang Terrace. The path consists of well-maintained steps, making the walk effortless. The viewing platform has a concrete floor, with stone tables and chairs at the entrance for resting. Climbing the stairs to the second level offers a panoramic view of Moganshan—a sea of emerald green, staggered pavilions, bamboo forests, and villas unfolding before your eyes. No wonder the ancients loved climbing high to gaze afar. Standing atop the mountain, looking out in all directions, the perspective is entirely different. As the vast beauty of the world gradually unfolds before us, it's hard to remain sorrowful or resentful. Through this boundless green, it feels as though we can reach the stars. A hundred springs cascade like flying waterfalls, while the surrounding mountains dip into serene bamboo."—now comes alive with the scenery before me, making the ancients' world vividly clear.
