Epping Forest Walk

Leaving East London behind, the transition to Epping Forest felt almost surreal. The busy streets and crowded pavements gradually gave way to open spaces, the hum of the city replaced by the rustling of trees. The journey was short, but the contrast was striking—within less than an hour, I had gone from concrete and traffic to endless greenery. Stepping into the forest, the air felt fresher, cooler. The towering trees stretched in every direction, their branches forming a natural canopy that filtered the sunlight into dappled patterns on the path. I wandered along the winding trails, the crunch of leaves beneath my feet and the occasional birdsong the only sounds breaking the silence. As I walked deeper, I came across old wooden signposts, weathered by time, pointing toward hidden ponds and forgotten clearings. The forest felt ancient, almost enchanted, its history woven into the landscape. After a while, I found a quiet spot by a lake, watching the water ripple in the afternoon breeze. By the time I left, the sun was beginning to dip, casting long shadows through the trees. Heading back toward the city, I carried with me a sense of calm—a reminder that even so close to London’s chaos, nature still had a place to breathe.
