Notably, hikers encounter Sutherland Falls, one of the country’s tallest waterfalls, plunging 580 meters.   • Unique Wildlife: Fiordland is home to rare bird species such as the whio (blue duck) and the kea, the world’s only alpine parrot. The pristine environment offers opportunities for wildlife spotting along the track.  • Well-Maintained Facilities: The Department of Conservation (DOC) provides three huts along the track—Clinton, Mintaro, and Dumpling—with amenities like gas cookers, running water, and flush toilets. These huts must be booked in advance, as camping is not permitted on the track.
