Frankfurt, Germany: More Than Just a Layover—A City Bursting with Fun and Flavor!

Family, I recently had the chance to deeply explore Frankfurt, Germany, a seriously underrated gem of a city! I initially thought it would just be a transit point, but it turned out to be full of surprises. I can't let anyone miss out on experiencing its charm! 📅Itinerary Day 1: Arrived at Frankfurt Airport in the morning and took the S-Bahn (city express train) to the hotel to check in. Super convenient, and I got to enjoy the scenery along the way. After dropping off my luggage, I walked 15 minutes to Römerberg. This is where Frankfurt's old city hall is located. The Gothic architecture is incredibly picturesque, and the street performers add to the vibrant atmosphere. I recommend spending 2–3 hours here. Day 2: After breakfast, I took the subway to the Eiserner Steg (Iron Bridge). From the bridge, you can overlook the beautiful scenery on both sides of the Main River. On one side are modern high-rise buildings, and on the other are ancient structures. It's super impressive! An hour is enough for taking photos. Then, I went to Frankfurt Cathedral on the other side of the river. The Gothic twin towers are magnificent. Inside, I quietly took in the history. I spent 1–2 hours there. In the afternoon, I went to Palmengarten (Palm Garden), which is easily accessible by bus. Strolling among the tropical plants was relaxing and enjoyable. I spent about 3 hours there. Day 3: In the morning, I took a taxi to the Museumsufer (Museum Embankment). There are so many museums here—an art lover's paradise! I chose 2–3 museums that interested me and spent about 2–3 hours in each. In the afternoon, I did some shopping on Zeil, where there's a wide variety of shops. ✨Highlights The buildings in Römerberg are colorful. Looking up at the center of the square, it feels like traveling back to the Middle Ages. During festivals, there are lively markets, creating a fantastic atmosphere. The Eiserner Steg is a romantic landmark of the city, adorned with love locks that sparkle in the sunlight. At sunset, the afterglow on the shimmering river is breathtakingly beautiful. 🍱Food Recommendations I highly recommend Zum Gemalten Haus, which is near Römerberg. Their signature apple wine pork knuckle is a must-try! The pork knuckle is roasted to crispy perfection on the outside and tender on the inside. The meat is bursting with flavor, and the unique apple wine sauce adds a sweet and sour touch that cuts through the richness. The classic German sausage platter is also excellent, featuring a variety of sausages served with sauerkraut for an authentic German experience. 🏨Accommodation Experience I stayed at Hotel am Römer, which has an excellent location right next to Römerberg. It's just steps away from the attractions. The rooms are simple yet cozy and cleaned daily. The front desk staff are multilingual and incredibly helpful in planning itineraries. The weather in Frankfurt is unpredictable, so it's best to carry an umbrella. Pay attention to shop opening hours, as many stores are closed on Sundays. Frankfurt is truly a place full of surprises.
