Running around the world: Mount Fuji Marathon 2019

After the government relaxed the 3+4 arrangement, my friends started planning trips, which also aroused my homesickness. However, due to work and family reasons, I could only look at old photos and have a fantasy trip. This time, I want to introduce Mount Fuji Kawaguchiko. However, unlike taking a car tour, we participated in the 12km Mount Fuji Marathon and walked around, taking in the stunning beauty of Mount Fuji while running. Lake Kawaguchiko is located at the foot of Mount Fuji and is one of the famous Fuji Five Lakes. It is slightly smaller than Lake Yamanaka. It only takes about 90 minutes to take a bus from Shinjuku, Tokyo to Lake Kawaguchiko, so Lake Kawaguchiko attracts more tourists and has more choices of hotels and restaurants. Since the event was held in Lake Kawaguchiko, the nearby hotels were almost booked, leaving only some more expensive ones. Fortunately, we are used to driving by ourselves, and the event also arranged parking lots, so we chose to stay at the "Asahigaoka Onsen Kiyokane Hotel" located in Lake Yamanakako. One of the advantages of running in Japan is that you don’t get up too early, and you still have time to enjoy a simple but delicious Japanese breakfast at the hotel. After a full meal, I immediately drove off to run. This race was held at the end of November 2019. Although Fuji Five Lakes is located at the foot of Mount Fuji, it is still more than 800 meters above sea level, which is about the same as the third highest mountain in Hong Kong – Tai Tung Shan, so the weather was a bit cool, and it was even colder with cloudy weather and occasional drizzle. I remember that it was only about 9 degrees when I started, but it did not affect the enthusiasm of the group of runners (including me)! Another advantage of running in Japan is that there are many people cheering for you along the way. In addition to the supply stations prepared by the race, there are also local residents who spontaneously form cheerleading teams and distribute food. The whole event is full of joy. The 12 kilometers were actually finished very quickly, but running can take a closer look at the surrounding scenery more slowly than sitting in the car. There are also many red leaves in November, which are pleasing to the eye. And after running, I felt a little less guilty for eating non-stop during the whole journey :p The pictures are the breakfast at the hotel, the scenery during the run, and the food at the supply station.
