They are the earliest Chinese floating villages in the area. Houses are built with wood on the sea. Each bridge is inhabited mainly by clan members with different surnames. The longest wooden bridge extends 500 meters into the sea, and some bridges are shorter. As Penang is close to the sea, in addition to doing business or trade, many Chinese choose to return to their old jobs and make a living from fishing.
