The oldest pedestrian underwater tunnel The first time I saw an undersea tunnel, it was only for pedestrians and bicycles. The tunnel runs through the north and south sides of Hamburg. There are four elevators at each tunnel entrance. Each elevator has a load capacity of up to ten tons and is about the size of a 20-foot container. There are staff to control the elevators.
