China Seal Museum is a national professional museum. The original building was built in the Republic of China period, with two floors, brick and wood structure. It was the West Lake villa of Du Yuesheng, a famous person in Shanghai, and a historical building in Hangzhou. In 1999, it was opened as the China Seal Museum, which is known as the "first famous society in the world" - the "display window" of Xiling Seal Society, and the provincial and municipal patriotic education base. The museum is closely connected with the site of Xiling Seal Society, surrounded by lakes and mountains, with beautiful scenery, integrating natural and cultural landscapes, and is the "most beautiful place in the lake and mountains". The early Chinese seals were discovered in the Shang and Zhou dynasties, and were widely used in the Eastern Zhou Dynasty. Seals are the art of combining the beauty of calligraphy and seal carving skills, which has been popular in China for more than 2000 years. Since the Ming Dynasty in the 16th century, seal art has become a part of literati painting and calligraphy, and thus the literati seal carving art with innovative spirit in the Ming and Qing Dynasties for 500 years has appeared, which has changed the long process of the development of seal studies, made it independent of Oriental art, and become a bright pearl shining in China and abroad. The China Seal Museum has a hall of seals of all ages, a hall of seal carving schools, and a hall of calligraphy and painting. With the historical evolution and the development of seal studies as the context, it displays different types of seals in different periods, many of which are classic works of different periods or schools. The calligraphy and painting hall holds various exhibitions of artworks related to seal studies from time to time, constantly expanding the field, enriching the content, and showing the unique and elegant Chinese seal culture to the world.
