It has a history of more than 1,600 years since it was founded by Zen Master Huili in the Eastern Jin Dynasty. According to Volume 32 "Temples and Monasteries" of "Hangzhou Prefecture Records" during the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty, Yongfu Temple is located at the foot of a mountain opposite the Huyuan Cave on Feilai Peak. It was originally divided into two temples, the upper and lower temples. Like Xiatianzhu (formerly known as Fanjingyuan) and other temples, it was founded by Zen Master Huili. It is recorded that in the first year of Xianhe in the Eastern Jin Dynasty (326 AD), Huili, an eminent monk from Western India, came to Hangzhou to build a temple. He successively built ten temples including Lingjiu and Lingyin, and Yongfu Temple was one of them. Yongfu Temple covers an area of ​​more than 300 acres. The building complex rises against the mountain. The whole temple is divided into five open courtyards: Puyuan Jingyuan, Jialing Lecture Hall, Ziyan Huiyuan, Guxiang Zen Courtyard and Fuquan Tea House. It has seven courtyards, five halls, three halls, two pavilions, two towers, five pavilions, and more than a thousand ancient and famous trees. It is one of the largest temples restored in the Buddhist community of Hangzhou.
