Wearing Time•An art project that reviews and reshapes Hong Kong’s memories. Oil Street Exhibition

Location: Oil Street Exhibition, Fortress Hill Oil Street Exhibition: Wearing Time is an art project curated and hosted by fashion designer Toby Lam, which aims to showcase the life stories of Hong Kong people and the city's imprint through embroidery and recycled clothing. The project is divided into two phases. The first phase, "Slow Needlework Nomads@Oil Street Realization", invited more than 130 participants of different ages and backgrounds to embroider their memories and feelings about Hong Kong on cloth stitch by stitch. The second phase, “Wearing Time”, reorganizes and integrates the embroidery patterns and stories collected in the first phase, transforming them into recycled clothing and art installations, and combining them with image and light elements to present memories in the city and the flow of time. The exhibit in the "Wear Time" exhibition is a long dress made of multiple pieces of embroidered fabric, symbolizing the diversity and connection of Hong Kong. Each piece of embroidered cloth tells a unique story, reflecting the participants' memories and emotions about Hong Kong, such as childhood games, family warmth, changes in the streets, social issues, etc. These stories have both personal characteristics and common significance, showing the life and spirit of Hong Kong people. The exhibition also features a wall installation made of recycled clothing and embroidered fabrics, and a spatial installation made of images and light projections, which respectively present the past and present of Hong Kong, as well as the flow and changes of time. The “Wearing Time” exhibition is not only an art exhibition, but also a platform for community engagement and education. During the exhibition, Lin Wei-yen and Oil Street Design hosted a series of interactive workshops to allow visitors to gain an in-depth understanding of the stories behind each embroidery pattern and learn how to share their thoughts with their own hands, stitch by stitch, and together weave the memories and appearance of this place.
