HONG KONG: best itinerary to discover the city in 1 day

Hong Kong is a truly world city that offers its visitors an eclectic mix of East and West cultures. Modern skyscrapers vs maze of old neighborhoods with the charming 50’s vibe, state of the art restaurants vs small eateries including the cheapest ones with a Michelin star! In my opinion the best place to start your exploration of Hong Kong is Kowloon and Nathan road in particular. Walking towards Victoria bay, you will see lots of traditional Hong Kong houses mixed with exclusive shops. When reaching the end of the road you will see the K11, Art Museum and eventually the Avenue of Stars. Make a stroll here to enjoy the panoramic view of the skyscrapers on the opposite side of Victoria Harbor. Walking along the promenade head to the Star Ferry pier to make a short but picturesque trip across the water to the other side. Once there, head to Central Mid-Levels Escalators to see the financial district full of modern skyscrapers. Contrasting with tall glas buildings very iconic old fashion double decker trams will definitely catch your eye. Take tram 1 or 8 for an hour long trip from North Point to Western Market or vice-versa. It is a good ride that takes you through Causeway Bay, Wanchai, Admiralty and Central. If you start at either North Point Terminus or Western Market you will be able to get on an empty tram and get the best (upstairs front or rear) seats for "grandstand" views. Afterward head to another tram called Peak Tram that will take you all the way to Victoria Peak. Best to sit on the right side for awesome views, but you will see them anyway once you arrive to the Peak. I recommend buying a tram ticket including Sky Terrace as you will regret not seeing the iconic Hong Kong view from it. Once back from the Peak stop by at Hong Kong Park which is also a bird sanctuary for some tranquility and relaxation. When the sun will start to set you can take a short walk to Lang Kwai Fong neighborhood for the many bars and pubs that it has to offer. Alternatively, take a ferry back to Kowloon and the Avenue of Stars just in time (it starts at 8pm) to see the magical light and music show that takes place every day over the skyscrapers of Hong Kong. Hopefully this one-day itinerary will make you fall in love with this awesome city and prompt your desire to come back and explore its hidden gems at somewhat slower pace.
