Afternoon tea full of flavor

Since they cannot travel abroad, Hong Kong people are now willing to spend money to enjoy themselves in high-end hotels, including me. Last time I tried the accommodation and lunch buffet experience at Karry Hotel, now let’s try the famous and even more enjoyable Oriental Mandarin afternoon tea. Many Chinese and foreign tourists and locals on the Internet have been praising the hotel's afternoon tea because of its signature muffins and rose jam. My sister and I are willing to contribute to the revitalization of Hong Kong's economy (actually it's all for food>.<). First of all, as a five-star hotel, the environment, location and service are all first-class. The interior decoration of the hotel has a strong oriental luxurious and elegant style, so it is very comfortable just sitting in the lobby. There are only two restaurants that offer afternoon tea: Chlipper Lounge & Cafe Causettle. We chose Chlipper Lounge because we could start earlier, from 2:30 to 6:00. In fact, neither restaurant has any window view, and the focus is on the food. The standard desserts for this afternoon tea include: 1963 Mandarin cheesecake, traditional muffins, raisin muffins, rose jam, butter cream and various sandwiches. There were many choices of tea, so I chose Oriental Mandarin Tea. I regretted it afterwards because the flavor was too strong and it felt like I was drinking flavored water. My sister chose hot chocolate milk, which was lighter in taste but acceptable. We guess that the hotel deliberately diluted the chocolate milk because chocolate plus cake is really greasy. The waiter first presented a three-tier cake stand, the first tier of which was 1963 Mandarin Cheesecake and Coleus Mango Passion Fruit Macarons. The second layer is red bean mochi, matcha raspberry madeleine cake and yuzu white chocolate cream cake. The third layer is for savory dishes, featuring a variety of sandwiches: egg salad, crab meat, yuzu and flying fish roe biscuits, smoked salmon, cream cheese on rye bread, and roast beef and teriyaki sauce cabbage salad. Frankly speaking, among the three layers of desserts, only the cheesecake, cream cake and egg salad sandwich were delicious. As for the others, they were just so-so. However, the smoked salmon cream cheese rye bread was unpalatable because the bread was very dense and tasted like brownie, while the taste of salmon was almost non-existent. If you didn’t look at the menu, you really wouldn’t know what you were eating. The other dish was a plate of exquisite Japanese caramel pudding with black sesame chocolate nougat. The sweetness of the caramel pudding was just right, and although the nougat had a strong sesame flavor, its sweetness was as "overpowering" as macarons, which was unbearable! After eating the above three layers of food, my sister and I were actually full. We had no appetite for the next pancakes, so we had no choice but to eat them. So I think the order of serving the dishes should be changed, so that we can eat some more filling muffins first, and then dessert? ! When the rose jam was served, the color was a bit strange and there were slight bubbles. It was different from the deep red color I saw online before. It’s hard to describe! However, the jam is indeed full of a very strong rose aroma, and every bite feels like eating rose essence. The muffins were slightly warm, and had a firmer texture than KFC's butter muffins, with a lighter butter flavor. Maybe because I was full, it didn’t taste particularly good! In conclusion, no matter which level of hotel, the afternoon tea seems to be more about appearance than substance. #Mandarin Oriental Hotel #Mandarin Oriental Afternoon Tea #Afternoon Tea☕️ #Afternoon Tea #afternoontea #afternoonteahk #Central Food #Central Places to Go #Local Tour #Central #Dating Spot
