Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Caine Road

The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception was originally located at the intersection of Pottinger Street and Wellington Street. It was completed in 1843 and expanded in 1858, but a fire in 1859 destroyed the church. In 1860, the Catholic Church rebuilt the church on the same site. The rebuilt church was demolished in 1886, and the current cathedral was constructed on Caine Road, where it has stood for nearly 140 years. The cathedral underwent renovation in 2002 and was designated as a Grade I historic building in 2010. The cathedral is open to the public free of charge. Its grand architecture, bright white interiors, and solemn yet peaceful atmosphere make visitors feel as if they are in a European cathedral.
