The "Nishikai Bridge", which is also the name of the garden, is an arch bridge that spans Inoura Seto (Hario Seto). For the purpose of promoting industry and promoting development, it was built between the Nishihiki Peninsula and Sasebo City, which had long been an "isolated island on land". At the time of its completion in 1955, it was the third longest in the world as a fixed arch bridge, and in 2020, it was designated as an important cultural property of the country for the first time as a bridge built after the war.
