The Suleymaniye Mosque is a magnificent mosque completed in 1557 by order of Suleiman the Magnificent, who built the Golden Age of the Ottoman Empire. It was built by Mimar Sinan, who is said to be the greatest architect in the Ottoman Empire. The mosque is characterized by its huge central dome (approximately 27m in diameter and 53m in height) and four minarets. The grounds also contain the tombs of Suleiman the Magnificent and his wife Hürrem Sultan.
