Kadifekale Castle, also known as the Velvet Castle, is a magnificent castle ruins. It was a military fortress built by Lysimachus, a Macedonian general under Alexander, mainly to prevent the invasion of the Persians. We chose to walk up from the hotel. It was quite tiring walking on a sloping road with stairs on a hot day. If you don't want to walk, you can also take the bus up. This is still an important attraction in Izmir.
