Izumo Taisha in Shimane

Izumo Taisha is a shrine dedicated to the deity Okuninushi-no-Okami, known as the god of matchmaking and fortune. The shimenawa (sacred straw rope) at the Kaguraden is incredibly thick and impressive up close! The grounds are very spacious, so be prepared for a lot of walking if you want to see everything! There are many souvenir shops and restaurants around the area, making it feel like a small town!
