Visit Japan's second tallest Buddha statue

The Great Buddha of Kamakura is the second tallest bronze Buddha statue in Japan. The Buddha statue is 11.3 meters tall and weighs 121 tons. After being cast in the 13th century, the Great Buddha of Kamakura was originally housed in a temple building. But in the 14th and 15th centuries, typhoons, tsunamis and earthquakes destroyed the temple. So since 1498, the Great Buddha has been in the grounds of Kotoku-in Temple. Next to the Buddha hangs a pair of straw sandals that are 1.8 meters long and weigh 45 kg. The straw sandals were woven by a group of children in 1951. They hope that the Buddha can wear straw sandals and walk on every inch of Japanese land. The straw sandals are now made and replaced every three years by the same group of children. There is a fee to visit the Great Buddha of Kamakura. Adults 300 yen, children 150 yen. You can also pay to enter the Buddha.
