The museum was built to commemorate Yoshiro Taniguchi (1904–1979), a famous architect born in Kanazawa who played a major role in promoting the preservation of traditional architecture, and his son Yoshio Taniguchi, who designed the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in New York. Inside, there is a model of "Yushintei", a banquet and tea room designed in the sukiya (tea ceremony house) style. This room was part of the government guest house in the Akasaka Palace. The creation of a completely realistic model shows the craftsman's expertise and advanced construction techniques. The space in this room can see the changing seasons through the large, long glass panels, which are beautiful and unique in their own way. The architecture of the museum combines traditional ideas and modern technology. The building is inspired by the tiered hillsides, with eaves and openings that reflect both the contemporary and the traditional.
