Kanazawa Castle, the pride of Ishikawa Prefecture, is a famous castle that rivals Kenrokuen Garden and was the domain of the Kaga Domain. This castle is associated with the warlord Maeda Toshiie from the Warring States period, and after several fires, it was restored to its Edo period appearance in the Heisei period. Ishikawa Gate, adjacent to Kenrokuen, is a nationally designated important cultural property and is the most popular spot. Admission to the gate is free (there is a fee to enter the towers and tenement houses beyond that). In spring, the approximately 400 cherry trees that cover the moat, standing out against the white walls of Kanazawa Castle, are a spectacular sight. It is a cherry blossom spot that is even more spectacular than Kenrokuen. The area around Ishikawa Gate, the main gate, is the most spectacular, and events are held in front of the gate and rickshaw services are also available. There is also a park outside the castle where you can rest your feet or enjoy a picnic by taking out food. At night, it is lit up, and the beauty is different from that during the day, making it truly fantastic.
