The Sugihara Chiune Memorial Hall in Kaunas, Lithuania, commemorates the achievements of diplomat Sugihara Chiune (1900-1986), who saved thousands of Jews during World War II with his 'Visas for Life.' Sugihara, widely known both domestically and internationally as the 'Schindler of the East,' rescued many Jewish refugees fleeing Nazi persecution. The building, which served as the Japanese consulate where Sugihara issued visas on the first floor and his residence on the second floor, has been open to the public as the Sugihara Memorial Hall since 2000.
