Arima Onsen x Mount Rokko: A One-Day Itinerary

Starting from Kobe city center, I took a train to Arima Onsen, one of Japan's three oldest hot springs. As soon as I stepped into the onsen town, I was greeted by the nostalgic atmosphere and the distinct sulfur aroma. Strolling along the cobblestone streets, I visited the Yuzen Shrine and then stopped by the famous Kin no Yu and Gin no Yu baths. The iron-rich, rust-colored water of Kin no Yu was particularly soothing, leaving me completely relaxed after the soak. For lunch, I chose a local eatery in the onsen town and enjoyed onsen eggs and Arima soba noodles, paired with a locally brewed beer—a perfect combination! In the afternoon, I took the Rokko-Arima Ropeway up to the summit of Mount Rokko, which stands at nearly 900 meters above sea level. On a clear day, you can enjoy panoramic views of Kobe Port, the Akashi Strait, and even Osaka Bay. One observation platform had a sign that read, "The Best View of Arima is from Here," and it truly lived up to its claim. The rolling mountains, with Arima Onsen quietly nestled at their base, looked like a picturesque painting.
