Discover Malaysia’s History at Muzium Negara.

Right in the centre of the city and easily accessible from most tourist areas such as the Petronas Towers, Bukit Bintang and Pavilion Shopping Mall is The National Museum of Malaysia. This museum - also called Muzium Negara - focuses solely on the history of the Malay Peninsula and the Malay people from prehistoric times until now. It is really interesting to see the dioramas and maps of how the land was formed and how Bronze Age people lived on this peninsula. Moving into to the modern age, there are many interesting artefacts covering the colonial period - did you know the Malays had to fight Portuguese, Dutch AND British colonists over time? I particularly loved examining the intricacy of the many sculptures, and the finely woven colorful textiles made for especially for nobility. A fairly small museum but with many varied and well chosen exhibits, this is a great way to spend an hour getting to learn about Malaysia’s local culture.
