Kurashiki｜The tranquil garden of a century-old townhouse, enjoy a lunch and dessert that blends the past and the present at Miyake Shoten

Almost ten years ago, I tried the sundae and coffee afternoon tea at Miyake Shoten, which was so amazing that I will never forget it. In the following years, I visited Kurashiki from time to time, but each time I gave up because of the long lines. On the day of my late flight back to Taiwan, I went to Kurashiki to visit temples and shrines. When I passed by the Miyake store, I was surprised to find that there was still one seat left inside. At lunchtime, we offer a curry set meal, which consists of Japanese curry fried with apple paste, local vegetables, pickled radish, and finally served with egg drop soup. This late Edo machiya has a history of a hundred years. It was originally a grocery store, but later became famous after being transformed into a cafe. In the courtyard of the old building, green plants and eaves form a frame for beautiful scenery. You can sit on the stepping rice to dine and enjoy the tranquil scenery. The lunch set also includes homemade caramel ice cream and apple chiffon cake, and the whole set costs just over NT$300. The store also sells small items, coffee and jam. It is worth mentioning that the sundaes change with the seasons, and the store will also hand-draw illustrations to deconstruct the composition of the sundae.
