A small handmade wood carving shop in Lake Akan shopping street in Hokkaido

After visiting the Ainu community near Lake Akan in Hokkaido, the souvenir shop that impressed me the most was a small woodworking shop called "Ponsion Ningyokan". It is run by an elderly couple. The grandfather does the wood carving and the old lady does the cashiering. According to the introduction, it is a "wooden fox that has won the highest prestigious award in folk art" and can maintain balance no matter how it is placed!
