The place where Master Ikkyu became a monk is Jizo-in Temple in Kyoto.

After leaving Saiho-ji Temple, we came across a small temple on the way called Jizo-in. Passing through the small mountain gate is a long path surrounded by towering bamboo forest. After looking carefully at the introduction, I realized that this is the place where the clever master Ikkyu was born and became a monk. Ikkyu was a prince, but because his mother was from the Fujiwara family, the regent Ashikaga Shogun forced the emperor to banish Ikkyu and his mother to the temple. Ikkyu and his mother lived there until he was six years old. The Suzumushi Temple not far from Jizo-in Temple was originally named Kegon-ji Temple and was built in 1723. Because bellworms chirped in the temple all year round, it was named "Suzumushi Temple". When you enter the temple, you will be welcomed with a cup of green tea and a small piece of snack. The abbot will also give visitors some life lessons. It is a very interesting procedure.
