Yongmutang Hall in Zhuge Village, Lanxi, Zhejiang

Built by Zhuge Liang's 32nd-generation descendant, Zongliang, during the Ming Zhengde period (1506–1521), Yongmutang Hall served as the ancestral hall for the Zhongfen branch of the Zhuge clan. Its facade, adorned with exquisite and ornate Suzhou-style brick carvings, stands approximately 10m tall. The central section, projecting above the eaves on both sides, forms a three-story structure. Small brick dougong brackets support the eaves, and the beams feature swastika patterns. A vertical plaque above is inscribed with the characters for "Jinshi" (successful candidate in the imperial examination). The plain side walls accentuate the central section's intricate details and dynamic outline. Atop the roof, a gourd pierced by a Fangtian halberd adds a touch of restraint, hierarchy, and vibrancy to the facade. The hall underwent extensive renovations during the Qing Jiaqing period, led by Jinshi Mengyan. Its magnificent Suzhou-style brick-carved facade makes it one of the eighteen halls in Zhuge Village. Inside, exhibits showcase the farming and studying tradition upheld by Zhuge Liang's descendants, adhering to his ancestral teachings. A small square lies in front of the hall. To the left is a side room, and to the right, across a narrow alley, stands a well-preserved Lou Shang Ting (Upstairs Hall) residence, now a wax museum after restoration. It is a national key cultural relic protection unit.
